Jazz/Poetry From Vision Festival 2010

At last, Hardbop is digging up raw HD footage from the Vision Fesitval 2010. This event was part of a 3-hour event sponsored by The Gathering of The Tribes and took place at Steve Canon‘s house in downtown Manhattan. In the heavy heat, patrons sat and enjoyed freely improvised music (mostly bassists) paired with poets. A performance video and interview with event organizer, Steve Dalachinsky featuring event oThere was one musical performance by Charles Waters: reeds, Andrew Barker drums and an unknown tuba player. Video of that performance coming soon.  This particular video features Albey Balgochian (bass) and  Jane Grenier (poet) performing what is  believed to be a completely improvised piece. The theory is that Jane is improvising on the poem “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” by Gil-Scott Heron the way that a musician may improvise on the melody of “All The Things You Are”. It’s obvious that Albey is playing completely freely. Enjoy.
